You owe it to yourself to read the account of NY Times journalist David Rohde's capture by the Taliban and eventual escape. It reads like a work of fiction. Undoubtedly this will be turned into a movie.

Fantastic story. I would second your encouragement that everyone read this piece. If you want a deeper read about Afghanistan, I highly recommend Rory Stewart's The Places in Between. It's an amazing account of one man's walk across Afghanistan, and about the incredible complexity of that region. After reading that book, I realized that any time someone in our government spoke about "victory" in Afghanistan, they had never visited the country.
